AD HOC COMMITTEE FORMED

March 7, 2019

As a result of the unification of the Franciscans across Canada and the desire to explore the southern portion of the lands, an Ad Hoc Committee was formed to assist the Franciscans throughout this initiative.

The committee consists of the following members:

  • Bob Mokry, o.f.m., Provincial Vicar, Holy Spirit Province of Canada
  • Pierre Charland, o.f.m., Provincial, Holy Spirit Province of Canada
  • Dan Gurnick, o.f.m., Definitor, Holy Spirit Province of Canada
  • Mark Love, Advisor to the Franciscans

Throughout this process, the Committee is working with a number of consultants from B&A Planning Group to help explore the south lands, facilitate technical studies and assist with communications and engagement throughout the 70 year celebration. The consultants from B&A Planning Group include:

  • Ken Venner & Asia Walker – Technical Studies & Planning Advisors
  • Tamille Beynon – Communications and Engagement Advisor

MEETINGS WITH NEIGHBOURS

Upon completing the technical studies of the land, the committee arranged a series of meetings with friends and neighbours of Mount St. Francis Retreat Centre to share these results and engage in conversation about the southern lands.

  • Our first meeting was with the Cochrane Historical Archival Preservation Society (CHAPS) on Thursday, February 21, where we were joined by approximately 20 members.
  • An additional 30 neighbours from Cochrane Heights and Sunterra Heights, and from Big Hill Road and Retreat Road joined us throughout two additional meetings on Thursday, February 21 and Thursday, February 28.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the meetings, and send a SPECIAL THANK YOU to CHAPS for donating space at the Cochrane Historical Museum to hold these meetings.
