MSF South Lands ASP Update & Upcoming Online Engagement

June 1, 2020

With the draft ASP nearly complete, the Committee has assessed the landscape of the public health situation, which has included discussions with Town Administration to determine the most appropriate means of fulfilling its commitment to host additional public engagement prior to submitting the ASP to the Town of Cochrane.

With social distancing measures remaining in place, and the inability to host large public gatherings for the foreseeable future, the Committee will be hosting an online engagement program to ensure stakeholders and members of the community are provided an opportunity to review and comment on the ASP concept prior to submission to the Town for review and formal circulation.

HOW WILL IT WORK?
The Committee is preparing a presentation that will be posted on the project website, mid-June, which will share:

  • An overview and history of the MSF South Lands project
  • How public input has influenced the draft ASP concept
  • The draft ASP concept with supporting information and rationale
  • Information about next steps

After reviewing the presentation, participants will be guided to complete an online survey that will allow them to submit comments and questions to the Committee.

Responses to questions will be posted on the FAQ section of the website throughout the two weeks the survey is live to ensure responses are available to all.

In light of the public health situation preventing an in-person event, the Committee’s objective is to provide an equal, if not a greater opportunity for the community to gain information and provide feedback on the ASP concept through the online platform, in lieu of in-person engagement. The Committee has arranged the online engagement to mimic the format of previous engagement events, which included presentations, comment forms and Q&A-style discussions.

WHEN WILL THE SURVEY BE AVAILABLE?
We anticipate the survey being live for two weeks at the end of June to allow sufficient time for the community to review the information and provide comments and questions. The presentation will remain available on the project website after the survey is closed.

HOW CAN PEOPLE PARTICIPATE IF THEY DON’T HAVE INTERNET ACCESS OR AREN’T COMFORTABLE PROVIDING INPUT ONLINE?
The Committee is happy to arrange hard copy delivery of the presentation and collect input through written submission or over the phone. Engagement promotions will provide this information.

HOW WILL ONLINE ENGAGEMENT BE ADVERTISED?
The presentation and online survey will be advertised using the same methods as previous in-person events, including:

  • Facebook advertisements and posts on the project Facebook page
  • Newspaper advertisements
  • Email to our subscriber list
  • Postcard delivery to adjacent neighbours

WHAT’S NEXT?
After the online survey is closed, the Ad Hoc Committee will compile the feedback into an Engagement Summary, which will be shared with the email list and posted on the website. The Committee will consider this feedback when refining and preparing the draft ASP for submission to the Town of Cochrane.

The Ad Hoc Committee appreciates the community’s continued participation throughout the South Lands initiative, and sends its best wishes to you and your families.
